In September, Synctera focused on strengthening risk and compliance workflows, expanding financial product flexibility, and delivering deeper visibility through our reporting tools

These updates include:

  • Improvements to streamline and automate fraud and risk decisioning
  • Unusual Activity Reports (UAR) in Console providing sponsor banks and FinTechs with direct visibility and management of compliance reports
  • Expanding support for specialized deposit programs

Card Dispute Management Improvements

A card program’s dispute process directly impacts a FinTech’s unit economics, compliance health, and customer loyalty. Consequently, managing card disputes efficiently and in a compliant manner is critical.

At Synctera, we recently rolled out significant improvements to our Card Dispute Management process. These improvements unify dispute operations across card networks and streamline the whole process from evidence intake through resolution.

Key improvements:

  • Single, streamlined and more standardized process for integration with the card networks
  • Improved configurability and ability for rule-based automation
  • More transparency into dispute data, status and decisions
  • Stronger evidence gathering and intake flow

Key benefits:

  • Improved user experience and case submission accuracy
  • Increased efficiency and scalability
  • Improved traceability and auditability
  • Faster resolution times and higher win rates

Bringing Unusual Activity Reporting into the Synctera case manager

In a BaaS program, the sponsor bank is accountable for BSA/AML compliance, while the day-to-day monitoring of FinTech activity happens at Synctera. The handoff between the two is where a lot of friction lives. Synctera's case manager now closes that gap with structured Unusual Activity Reports (UARs). Ground Control analysts create each UAR directly in the console, capturing the activity summary, related transaction and case history, and risk rationale in a consistent format. The bank then receives it as a dedicated case for review and acknowledgment, replacing the external form and PDF attachment used before.

For sponsor banks, escalations arrive in the same format every time, are routed to the reviewers the bank designates, and leave a shared audit trail for recordkeeping and examination. Roles are unchanged: Ground Control reviews and escalates, and the bank decides whether to file a SAR with FinCEN. For FinTechs, the benefit is a more reliable path from suspicious activity to a bank decision, with less back-and-forth for bank partners and less exposure to the delays and gaps that come from handing off documents manually.

Enabling legal designation for Trust Accounts

A trust account is a financial account opened in the name of a legal trust, to hold and manage money or assets on behalf of a beneficiary. Synctera has enhanced our account and relationship structure to support designation of a variety of trust account types and relationships, so that partners working with us that support these legal structures can capture these records on our platform.

  • Accounts now contain flags to indicate whether Trust, Escrow and/or Custodial, and a a new account_title field to fulfill regulatory naming requirements on trust accounts
  • Primary Owners can now be marked as Trustee, Escrow Agent or Custodians of a given trust, escrow or custodial account, via legal_roles
  • Authorized Signers can now be marked as Escrow Agents of escrow accounts

‍

These account flags are surfaced in the Console under the Account Detail, and have been added to our Filtering capabilities, to provide full visibility into these types of accounts. Account relationship designations are visible under the Relationships tab of Accounts.

See our API Spec for Accounts and Relationships for more details.
